Sheffield will host its annual Chinese Lunar New Year Festival on the 1 and 2 of February.
Cultural workshops and food stalls will take over the city centre, with the Peace Gardens serving as the focal point of the festivities.
The two-day festival commemorating the Year of the Snake will be highly visual and interactive. Giant lanterns will illuminate the streets, featuring QR codes that teach visitors about the zodiac.
The main stage in the Peace Gardens will host performances, including the World Champion Lion Dance Troupe, who are travelling from Foshun, China, to perform in Sheffield for the first time.
The troupe is famous for their acrobatics, and a jaw-dropping performance is promised.
Sheffield’s Lunar New Year celebrations are getting bigger every year and have transformed into a city-wide celebration.
The Lunar New Year festival will be hosted by community interest company Cultural Inclusive and is backed by Sheffield City Council.
Founder Jerry Cheung said: ‘Our mission is to create an inclusive platform that celebrates the richness and diversity of all cultures, and events like this offer a perfect opportunity to showcase that.’
The organisers hope the celebrations will engage people from all walks of life and foster a sense of belonging in the city.
The festival is only in its second year and has already been nominated for the Sheffield Business Awards and the Spirit of Sheffield Award for its cultural significance and contribution to the community.
