Sheffield’s favourite fringe theatre is back this September with the company’s first season of work this year. Theatre Deli organisers are delighted to once again throw open the Eyre Street theatres doors to Sheffield audiences with an eclectic programme of the best up and coming performances from around the country.
With something for everyone, the programme will open with the Sheffield Showcase festival, curated by Our Favourite Places with gripping drama The Nobodies and family fun in Rubbish Shakespeare Company’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, described as Monty Python meets horrible histories.
Difficult topics are explored with artistry, sensitivity and humour in Can I Touch Your Hair? And Fruitcake – The Ten Commandments from the Psych Ward, among other performances such as Too Pretty to Punch from banjo-wielding trans warrior Edalia Day.
The pandemic has inspired a range of responses from Boris the Musical 3: The Johnson Supremacy with a medley of music to laugh out loud at, to The Empathy Experiment 2.0, where poet Rose Condo examines how technology can help us to connect with each other.
Ready for a fun night out? Let Us Make It Up to You and Sheffield favourite Fish Pie Cabaret’s Lost at Shore will have you splitting your sides, while December will welcome The Star Bazaar’s Christmas Double Ding-Dong for the sauciest party of the festive season!
Rounding off the programme, festive performance The Elves and the Shoemaker will leave families entranced this December.
If that wasn’t enough, watch this space as new Sheffield-based co-Artistic Directors Nathan Geering and Ryan Harston hope to add performances alongside autumn 2021’s programme to give Deli audiences a flavour of what to expect from their first full theatre programme, which will launch in 2022.
Nathan Geering, Co-Artistic Director for Theatre Deli, Sheffield said: “We’ve some great shows in the coming months and some surprises we will be adding to the mix! Be sure to keep tuning in to see what great artists we add to the programme over the next six months.
“The new additions to our existing programme will give you a flava of what to expect from us as artistic directors before we deliver our first full artistic programme from January 2022. We aim to add a new dimension to Theatre Deli’s programming so y’all better get ready!”
Sara Hill, former Producer for Theatre Deli, Sheffield said: “It’s been a long time coming for a lot of these shows having been delayed since 2020, so it’s wonderful to finally give these artists the platform they deserve and welcome audiences back into the space.
“All of us here at Deli are raring to go; we’ve been working hard throughout the pandemic behind the scenes supporting our artists and working towards finally opening again and I hope you’ll join us!”
Tickets for Theatre Deli’s autumn programme are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.theatredeli.co.uk. To keep customers and staff safe, Theatre Deli will closely follow any changes to government guidance surrounding Covid-19.
