It’s never been on the city break radar, but Sheffield is one of the UK’s most underrated destinations

The iPaper was full of praise for Sheffield last week, describing our fair city as one of the UK’s most underrated destinations.

The article, which can be read here, touches on the regeneration of the city’s old buildings with quirky coffee shops opening in an old silversmiths and how “the city’s energy now comes from small, independent makers rather than giant machines”.

“Kelham Island used to be a dismal red light area. Now, it’s one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Britain. Foundries have turned into flats, and the Cutlery Works is the latest and boldest in an ever-expanding roster of bars and restaurants.”

It’s not the first time the Steel City has been lauded over in the national press, with the Guardian naming the Shakespeares pub as one of the best in the UK and the Telegraph describing Kelham Island as “the new hipster capital of the north”.
