Last week, FORGE Warehouse, the Effingham Road nightclub housed in a former Victorian steel forge, celebrated being named among the nominees for ‘Best Club’ in the prestigious DJ Mag Best of British Awards 2024, and they’re asking for you help to get them over the line to hopefully scoop the gong.
The Sheffield nightclub, which opened in 2022, has quietly been making waves on the Sheffield clubbing scene thanks to its innovative programming in collaboration with local grassroots promoters and DJs, as well as its ability to bring in promoters from outside the city to host huge parties here in Sheffield.
These moves have been recognised by the national magazine, whose panel of industry experts has put the club through to the public vote, which is open now and ends on Thursday, 28 November, at midday.
Speaking of the nomination, FORGE Warehouse’s Venue Manager, Connor Napleton, told Exposed: “It’s a huge honour to have been nominated for DJ Mag’s ‘Best Club’ award! I’ve seen this venue grow since the start, having attended events from the very beginning before slowly getting more involved as time has gone by.
“One of the truly amazing things about FORGE is the variety of music and beautiful people we work with! Events don’t really feel like work; they’re a dance and a unique experience, and the team here feels like a proper family.”
Booking Manager Dan Sumner added: “We definitely didn’t expect the nomination, especially not so quickly, having opened only two years ago. Time flies though, and while it’s great to receive recognition like this, it’s the team we’ve built here that we’re all most proud of.
“The staff group chat pretty much exploded when I told them we’d been nominated, which was very cute. Shout out to the team, and also to all the great promoters from near and far who we work with.”
FORGE Warehouse has been home to the likes of Groovebox, HE.SHE.THEY., Louder, Love to be…, Keep Hush, Percolate, Save Our Scene, Square One, Super Sonic Booty Bangers, Rinse FM, SNAFU, Teletech, and Worried About Henry, as well as Big Fat Rave, whose promoter, Jack Cooper, said: “FORGE is an old industrial steelworks complex converted into a warehouse venue, designed for the party people of the Steel City.
“But this place has gone further and attracted dancers and rave organisers from much further afield, including ourselves. We’re proud to call it our Sheffield home!”
The Best of British Awards will be held at London’s The Steel Yard on Thursday, 12 December, where the winners will be announced. The awards party will also feature performances from an array of nominees from this year’s categories, with the first artists on the line-up set to be announced on 21 November.
DJ Mag said: “This year marks the 18th edition of the awards, in which we shine a spotlight on the homegrown talent that continues to place the UK scene at the forefront of electronic music.”
