The redevelopment of Sheffield’s iconic Park Hill has moved a step forward as the construction of the £20m phase three of the project began this week.
Specialist student accommodation developer Alumno is building more than 70 townhouse-style units to accommodate over 300 students, as well as an additional commercial space for residents and the rest of the community.
David Campbell, managing director of Alumno, said: “This is a one-off and a blueprint project, and students interested in architecture and design are particularly excited about the prospect of living in a world-renowned architectural icon.
“This is an iconic site with international significance – forming a crucial part of Sheffield’s past, present and future – and will be one of our most important projects to date.”
Urban Splash has completed the first phase of the redevelopment project, comprising 260 homes, ten workspaces and the Grace Owen children’s nursery. The second phase of work began in January 2019. Plans for the fourth phase of development, including almost 100 flats and a flagship arts and culture venue, were submitted earlier this year.
The project is due to complete in autumn 2020.
