Kelham Island’s Church venue will screen the original 1973 Exorcist film as part of a free Halloween event on 31 October.
The film, which for the uninitiated is a classic horror movie centered around the exorcism of was banned in the UK in 1988 due to the “hysteria” the film caused in cinemas, meaning the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) felt an even 18+ rating wasn’t satisfactory. The movie wasn’t allowed back on the shelves until 1998.
During filming, several bizarre events took place. For example, the toddler son of one of the main actors was hit by a motorbike and hospitalised, attracting claims that the set was cursed. Actors Jack MacGowran, and Vasiliki Maliaros both died during post-production, and two other actors family members died whilst shooting the movie (not on set). Basically, it was a reyt creepy movie.
The screening is free, 18+ and seating on a first come, first served basis.
Head to the Facebook event for more info.
