A huge development next to Meadowhall has been given the green light by the council, with the development expected to generate more than 4,000 jobs when completed.
British Land, which co-owns Meadowhall, have drawn up plans to build a hotel, offices, shops, bars and restaurants, a gym and a car showroom on land at Meadowhall Way, Meadowhall Drive, Carbrook Street and Weedon Street.
The scheme presented by British Land, which has been backed by BDP, Quod, Peter Brett Associates and Arcadis, aims to produce over one million sq ft of employment space. Of which, 430,000 sq ft would be dedicated to office space with 50,000 sq ft reserved for retail and leisure.
It has been suggested that the proposal will be approved, as an officer’s report prepared for the meeting advocates for consent to be granted. The report said: “The proposed development will regenerate a large vacant site and has the potential to deliver a significant number of jobs which will be of benefit to Sheffield as a whole and provide economic benefits for the communities around the site.
