Taking over the old site of Nibbles takeaway pizza on the corner of Ashdell Road and Glossop Road, Cats café-bar will bring a taste of Catalonia to the heart of Broomhill when it opens on Thursday 6 August.
The café-bar promises a varied selection of European beer, wines and top quality coffee, taking inspiration from family ties in the wider Catalan region and team-member Sam’s time living in Barcelona.
With big plans for future events, the Cats team will also be opening up the basement space, equipped with comfy sofas and cosy lighting for intimate live music nights.

The site will be drenched in a rich, wine-red colour both inside and out. They’re going for “warm, worn-in materials” – think exposed brick, raw plaster, wood, brass, and concrete that “age well rather than fall apart.”
Cats will offer an array of sommelier-sourced wines straight from small producers in the south of France. They aim to give the space an already-lived-in feel with crafted European drinks bringing a family-owned flavour.
The team is also launching The Irregulars Club, a member’s tab that will fetch on free drink per month for six months. For £27, limited customers can get a glass of house wine, a draught beer, or a cup of coffee on the house, with additional perks thrown in from time to time including discounted prices and early event access.
They’ve been documenting the whole process of creating the Spanish-inspired space on Instagram, giving visitors-to-be a flavour of what it takes to create a bar from scratch.
