After announcing the closure of its Pinstone Road shop before Christmas, independent book shop La Biblioteka has revealed its brand new space – around the corner at Castlegate’s new social space, Kommune.

The book shop has launched a Crowdfunder to help with the launch of the new space, which La Biblioteka could use to move its zero-waste offer biblio.zero and its riso printing studio and small publishing press, Choriso Studio over as well as using the space to host talks, exhibitions, events, workshops and pop-ups.

La Biblioteka said: “We’re determined to create and programme a bold and exciting proposition that reminds everyone how exciting reading can be and show that there’s still life in physical spaces that can inspire and delight.

“We’d outgrown our previous premises on Pinstone Street, opposite the Peace Gardens, but understand that loads of locals and visitors to our city found their way to our bookshelves, making it a buzzy little gem – even though that wonderful busyness could make it hard to run. We would love you to help and support this next chapter through this crowdfunder! we’ve got a fairly unique idea about what a contemporary magazine and bookshop should look and feel like. Together with the best local and international makers, editors, publishers and suppliers, we’re ready to make this happen!”

The space would mean La Biblioteka could mean hosting authors, editors and speakers in an in-house event space and an improved accessibility for people with mobility issues.
