To celebrate International Women’s Day, a group of female athletes from Sheffield congregated in Barker’s Pool earlier today to pay homage to the city’s iconic Women of Steel statue.
Competitors taking part in this year’s Outdoor City Weekender gathered around the statue, which depicts two of the thousands of factory workers who kept vital munitions factories going during both World Wars, for a photocall highlighting Sheffield’s strong, determined women from past and present.
Amongst them were double bouldering World Champion and former Climbing Works international competitor Shauna Coxsey, British Bouldering Champion and CWIF 2018 competitor Leah Crane, mountain bike riders of the Howard Street Dual – Megan Forman, Hanna Jonsson and Kelly Emmerson – plus cyclists of The Magnificent Seven event.
