A new indoor go-karting facility in Sheffield has inched closer to the starting line, as plans to convert a disused unit on Downgate Drive in the Lower Don Valley area have been approved by Sheffield City Council.
Zones (Sheffield) Ltd, supported by Urbana, submitted the plans for the unit, which would be operated by Battle Kart, an indoor electric karting concept that uses augmented reality technology.
There are already numerous Battle Kart complexes across the UK, as well as in Paris and Dubai, all offering a ‘Mario Kart-style experience’.

The facility would also include a reception and foyer, café, staff facilities, briefing and conference areas, changing rooms, and spectator viewing areas.
A planning statement submitted as part of the application described the development as “a high-quality leisure facility, generating substantial economic and social benefits for the local community and surrounding areas”.
