An Australian themed cafe opened this January serving coffee and Aussie-style sushi. Located near the train station on Howard Street, Drop Bear is described as “relaxed, welcoming and a spot to get creative”.

It’s the latest endeavour from husband-and-wife owners, Alex and Gigi Moore, who say Drop Bear provides an affordable menu for customers. They also created Hygge, the successful Scandinavian inspired coffee shop chain found across the city.

“Our vision for Drop Bear Coffee is simple. We wanted to create a space that feels energetic, welcoming, and real, somewhere people can fuel up properly.”

They offer funky colourful drinks like their iced ube cheesecake cloud latte and a peach horizon matcha, priced at £4.50 each. If you’re hungry, they have Australian style sushi and rice bowls, including vegetarian options.

The name is an homage to the mythical drop bears in Australia that fall out of trees and attack tourists. Poking fun at this folklore, their logo features a cartoon koala sipping coffee and wearing a t-shirt with Drop Bear written on it.

Students enjoy 20% off and the cafe is currently running a competition for free coffee for a year. If you want to opt in, check out their social media here.
