A huge screen on Devonshire Green will show England’s historic World Cup semi final against Croatia on Wednesday (11 July).

Announcing the news on Twitter, Lord Mayor Magid Magid said: “With Sheffield being the true home of football and England absolutely bossing it in the World Cup, we will be putting on a mahoosive screen on Dev Green from 6pm on Wednesday 11 July!  Let’s all have party!”

The fan zone will feature a 46sqm screen, where the team will be attempting to reach its first World Cup final since 1966.

England have performed above expectations during this World Cup, with performances from Sheffield’s Kyle Walker, Harry Maguire and Barnsley’s John Stones inspiring the team to its first World Cup semi final since 1990.

World Cup fever has hit an all-time high in England with The Lightning Seeds’ ‘Three Lions’ hitting number one in the UK charts, 22 years after its original release.
