Fancy yourself as a bit of a crooner? Does your rendition of I Wanna Dance with Somebody have your local boozer on its feet? Well, Cosy Joes is searching for Sheffield’s karaoke champion, with £1,500 in prize money up for grabs, and you could be in with a shout.
Sheffield karaoke bar Cosy Joes is putting the city’s singers to the test this autumn with the launch of its inaugural karaoke competition – giving contestants the chance to battle it out for cash prizes and, more importantly, serious bragging rights.
The competition will take place across four heats on 25 September, 2 October, 9 October and 16 October, before culminating in a grand final on 23 October.
Each entrant gets one song to show what they can do, with the five best singers from each heat progressing to the final. Miss out first time around? All is not lost, as unsuccessful entrants can come back and try their luck again at a different heat.
Cosy Joes said the idea came after seeing the quality of singers regularly taking to the venue’s stage.
“We are putting on our inaugural karaoke competition to showcase the talented singers of the area! We have already seen the wonderfully talented people walking in on a weekly basis and have decided it’s time to see who is the cream of the crop!
“There is no pressure and it is a fun event, so if in doubt then give it a go!”
There’s plenty to play for, too. Every singer who reaches the final will receive £25, while third place takes home £100, the runner-up receives £300 and the eventual winner walks away with £500. There’s also an additional £100 prize for the competition’s most entertaining performer.
The grand final will be independently decided by a panel of three judges.
