Many of Sheffield’s local pubs, cafes, restaurants and bars have come together to provide 40 prizes with a combined value of £1,500 for a raffle being organised for a little boy fighting cancer.
Four-year-old Jude was diagnosed with a rare neuroblastoma when he was two and since has exhausted all treatment options currently available on the NHS. His family and friends are now desperately raising funds with the hope that Jude can take part in clinical trials in Italy and New York next month, in what they say could be his last chance at beating his aggressive illness.
But the experimental treatments come with a hefty price tag. The cost of participating is an eye-watering £487,000, a challenge which the family have tackled head-on. So far, they have raised £260,000 and are hoping to add to their already impressive total with this immense Steel City food and drink raffle.
The fundraiser is being organised by a friend of the family, Grace Turnbull, who met Jude and his parents last year. On the crowdfunder site, she said: “He really does seem a very special boy. For me, this is a huge reminder that we should never take the health and happiness of the little people in our lives for granted.”
Prizes range from a wine and cheese night at Elm, tickets for Sheffield’s Beer Fest and even a year’s supply of Hendersons Relish amongst a very impressive list of other offers and vouchers which will excite your inner foodie. Tickets are £10 each or £30 for four and every penny raised will go towards getting Jude across the globe for his treatment.
