Tramlines Festival announced last week the 2020 festival would be cancelled due to the outbreak of Covid-19.
It was expected that the festival would be postponed until it’s safe enough to celebrate music with 30,000 other Sheffielders in Hillsborough Park. Below, is the full statement from Tramlines HQ in case you hadn’t already seen it.
“Firstly, we want to share a heartfelt thank you from the whole team for your patience and messages of support while we work through this difficult situation, it really does mean the world to us. We’d also like to take this opportunity to offer our thanks for the continued dedication and hard work of all the NHS teams, key workers and volunteers in trying to combat this horrible pandemic.
“We would like to assure you that we have delved into all possible options to try and make this year’s Tramlines possible. However, unfortunately, after a full review with the relevant local authorities; and in the best interests and safety of our festival-goers, artists, staff, suppliers and the emergency services; we are truly sorry and heartbroken to confirm that Tramlines Festival will not be able to take place this year.
“Looking forward, Tramlines will now take place on the 23rd – 25th July 2021. After taking into account your feedback, we’re pleased to confirm that tickets and upgrades for this year’s festival will automatically be rolled over to 2021. We’d love to see you at next year’s festival, so if you want to attend, no further action is required.
“If, for any reason at all, you’re not able to join us for the new dates, you’ll be able to claim a refund on your entry tickets and upgrades. We’re working closely with our ticketing partners and they will be in touch with instructions on the next steps within 7 days. We would like to thank you once again for continuing to support Tramlines and want to assure you we’re now putting everything into planning the best festival ever. Tramlines would be absolutely nothing without you and we can’t wait to see you in July 2021.

Following this, Sheffield city council also announced that the Fringe At Tramlines would be cancelled too. Councillor Mary Lea, cabinet member for culture, parks and leisure, said in a statement: “We have taken the difficult decision to cancel The Fringe at Tramlines 2020 as our partners at Tramlines have also cancelled the main festival.
“It is of paramount importance that as an authority we protect visitors, staff, organisers and other stakeholders from the spread of Coronavirus as well as continuing to protect our NHS.
“Tramlines weekend is one of the city’s most anticipated events of the year, so naturally we are all extremely disappointed but it is essential that we adhere to Government guidelines, which are in place to save lives.
“We have already agreed a date for Tramlines Festival in 2021 and The Fringe, as always, will run alongside this so that we can once again celebrate and look forward to a fantastic weekend showcasing some of the best acts as well as our talented local musicians.
“For now we must continue to ask everyone, wherever possible, to stay at home and stay safe.”
