Crystal is one of the top Fringe venues at Tramlines every year. We sent Mark Perkins to check out Rotherham noisesmiths The Leathernecks to see if this year’s line up would live up to its billing.
The Leathernecks
Crystal
If you still need persuading to set up camp in Crystal for the weekend, the fact that bands like The Leathernecks are playing there should convince you. Their short but perfect set of well-played indie pop tunes, never any longer than four minutes and all with an energy that will have you bouncing up and down like someone possessed, was an early highlight for me of this year’s Tramlines. Picking up the Made In South Yorkshire baton from any local band you care to name, they infected the Crystal crowd early on and made the place their own. I’m told they draw crowds of several hundred on their home turf in Rotherham, and I think on this showing, they’ll soon be doing the same here in Sheffield. A great new band… and what Tramlines is all about.
