After quietly closing its doors earlier this year, owners of iconic bar The Harley have announced the venue is under new management and will return ‘better than ever’.

The Sheffield institution will reopen for a brand new era on 22nd July at 6pm, but few details of the new management’s plans for the venue, beyond the grand reopening party, have been revealed at this stage.

After years of sitting atop the city’s nightlife scene, back in April 2019, the bar announced its shock closure, prompting a flood of tributes from regular visitors. It was a venue known throughout the city for its gigs, club nights and as the home of Sheffield food institution the Twisted Burger Company, but had to close up shop in spring 2019 due to mounting financial pressures.

It came as a slight surprise then, when when in summer 2019, the pub’s owners Mitchells & Butlers confirmed the venue would reopen in the autumn, retaining its live music presence. A spokesperson from Mitchells & Butlers spokesperson said at the time: “From time to time, we review our estate and have taken the decision to invest in the Harley.

“We expect to be reopening the Harley in the Autumn this year, retaining a live music presence whilst enhancing the offer of the iconic Sheffield destination. More information will be released closer to the relaunch.”

A packed out live show at The Harley

Following a refurb, the venue reopened in October 2019, and since then, its been relatively quiet on The Harley front, which is perhaps why it almost went unnoticed, when at some point this year the bar closed its doors once again.

Yesterday’s announcement on socials brings renewed optimism for the city-centre spot, so keep your eyes peeled for further updates on what the future holds for The Harley. The Harley saga continues…
