Matilda Street venue Plug will play the classic 1982 hit ‘Africa’ by Toto on repeat all night at a charity event on 8 December.
The event is in aid of Temwa – a charity which helps to reduce poverty in northern Malawi. On Temwa‘s website, its mission statement says: “40% of the population live on less than £1 a day, 16% are HIV-positive, and one in three people struggle to feed themselves each day. Our mission is to develop self-sufficient communities by supporting projects in education, health, agriculture and forestry, and micro finance.”
On Facebook, Plug said: “A whole night of Toto’s hit song Africa is coming to Plug this December. Strap in for a night of everyone’s favourite hit to raise money for a great cause. Get tickets here: http://bit.ly/TotalTotoSheff18.
“Temwa are a charity committed to reducing poverty in remote communities. By enjoying and donating at this event you are supporting them in their great work. To read more about the charity follow the link here: www.temwa.org.”
Tickets start from £5, but there is the option to donate money to Temwa too with a £10 donation allowing the charity to plant 20 trees and £15 giving people access to clean water.
Profits from the event will go to Temwa’s efforts.
