Sheffield band Light Tide have burst onto the scene in recent months with a number of headline shows in Sheffield and gigs across the Pennines in Manchester under their belts.
With that said, none of that is more impressive than the band’s first single, ‘Highway’, which the band gave Exposed an exlusive listen before its release on 8 December.
Finger-picking acoustic intros aren’t usually what you’d associate with Sheffield bands, and as the lead singer’s gruff, soulful voice kicks in, there’s a distinct feeling of the beginning of a journey. There’s shades of Americana, blues and folk in ‘Highway’ and whilst the melody is melancholic, the general feeling of the song is one of defiance and hope.
BBC Introducing has tipped Light Tide for big things in the coming years and on the strength of this single, we’ll be joining them in that prediction.
