Sheffield’s 8-piece jazz-funk ensemble Dreamflower Collective will be taking their insatiable live re-interpretation of Childish Gambino’s Awaken, My Love! album on their around the UK this Autumn.

Formed in 2018 through a shared love for jazz, neo-soul, hip-hop and funk, the band have spent the last few years both writing their own compositions and reworking their favourite music, bringing new life to contemporary albums with an electrifying mix of solos, breakdowns and improvisations.

The band performed their debut live show back in 2018 in Sheffield, raising the roof with a lick and groove filled, rhythmic re-interpretation of D’Angelo’s Brown Sugar album. The following year, their attention turned to another album.

Childish Gambino’s 2016 magnum opus ‘Awaken, My Love’ was an obvious choice for the band. Already being a perfect mash-up of funk leads, soulful vocals and hip-hop rhythms, for them it was missing just one element – a jazz finish.

Dreamflower Collective take a cinematic approach when bringing new life to contemporary albums, enhancing the emotion and message of the original music.

Their unique rendition of Childish Gambino’s critically-acclaimed album has garnered great success so far, resulting in multiple roadblock shows in Sheffield and further afield, gracing cities such as Bristol. Now, they are taking their electrifying recreation on the road across the whole country, and their upcoming show at The Foundry later this month is not one to be missed.
