In a week of nationwide street parties and one-off bank holidays to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Sheffield’s True North Brewing Company will be holding a street party of their own to celebrate the iconic local brewery’s 30th birthday.

The rescheduled spring bank holiday on the 2nd of June will mark 30 years since a disused lock-up was transformed into one of the mainstays of Sheffield City Centre, The Forum. Since then, True North become one of most recognisable breweries and pub groups in a city famed for its real and craft ale, now spanning 14 venues stretching to our neighbours in Derbyshire.

Far from being satisfied, however, in 2014 True North sought to push Sheffield’s traditional adoration of beer to new horizons by producing ‘Sheffield Dry Gin’, the first to be distilled in Sheffield for over 100 years.

To further cement this love of gin, they established the ‘Sheffield School of Gin’, a 3-hour boozy crash course which culminates in creating your own bespoke gin to be distilled, bottled and taken home for further inspection. Ultimately, this is just one of a number of products, events and experiences which have helped to establish True North as a local institution.

So, to celebrate the True North story, they will be opening their brewery and inviting people down to Eldon Street for a day of live music, street food and True North brews. This will be one of a number of plans that the brewery has in store to mark its 30th birthday, with limited edition products and some surprises also to be expected on the day.

As we’ve been treated to an extra bank holiday to recover from any food comas or overindulgence, there’s really no excuse to miss this one. So, whether you’re celebrating 30 years of True North, 70 years of Queen Liz – or both! – you can find the Eldon Street Party at True North Brewery (just off Division Street) on 02/06/2022.
