Back in May 2018, Somali-born refugee Magid Magid became Sheffield’s youngest ever Lord Mayor. Magid has thrived in the position over the last year, publicly denouncing Donald Trump and banning him from the Steel City, appointing the city’s first Poet Laureate and speaking out against racism in British society. In his own words, he’s well and truly “brought the role of the Lord Mayor into the 21st century”.

Part of the role is to champion and encourage the local independent and creative scenes, whether that’s opening indie food festivals in the city centre or becoming an official charity partner here at Sheffield Beer Week. The Lord Mayor’s Charity Fund is made up of three chosen charities: Flourish Sheffield, Sheffield Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service and Unity Gym Project.
