Kelham Island’s snug cafe and bistro The Gatehouse has closed for good, citing financial losses over the course of 12 months as the reason for the closure.
In a statement on its Facebook page, bosses said: “We are very sad to announce that the Gatehouse at Kelham Island has ceased trading. The Gatehouse has run at a loss over the past twelve months which we have supported it through financially.
“In the past six months increased competition in Kelham Island has made any prospect of the venue becoming financially viable impossible. We’d like to thank the customers who have supported us over the past eighteen months but more importantly the staff who have been so committed.”
The spot was fairly popular due to its position on Alma Street and as an entrance to Little Kelham. The cafe had been open since early 2018.
