Traditional Trippet Lane boozer Dog & Partridge waved off the departing Tory government in style last week, throwing a huge bash featuring a charity raffle hosted by Bipolar Abdul and raising vital funds in the process.

Punters were invited to toast the end of a – let’s be honest here – most miserable political period for the country, with 20+ independent local businesses and artists donating raffle prizes to be won. These ranged from restaurant and bar vouchers to artworks by Reyt Good Illustration and Rosie Wilson.

The award-winning venue, which was recently crowned ‘Best Traditional Pub’ by Exposed readers, also donated proceeds for a special election beer, ‘His-Tory’, to their chosen charity of S6 Foodbank.

‘His-Tory’ (geddit?) went down a treat and proceeds went to S6 Foodbank.

The final result was £1,490 raised, plus another £130 donated through Instagram. Foodbank usage soared under 14 years of Conservative government, with anti-poverty charity The Trussell Trust reporting that the number of food parcels distributed rose from 61,468 in 2010-11 to 2.54 million in 2020-21.

S6 Foodbank was founded by local churches and community groups in 2011. Recent figures from the organisation revealed that 68,937 food parcels were distributed to people across Sheffield in the past year, with 26,737 of those going to children.

“We just want to thank all the independent Sheffield businesses that supported our fundraiser,” Sorcha Smith from the Dog told Exposed. “And all the people who donated, whether it be their time, expertise or cash! Sheffield really is super.”
