The old Josephine’s Nightclub at Fountain Precinct could be converted to offices or a gym under newly submitted plans to the council.
DLP Planning, on behalf of Kames Capital, has submitted a planning application to Sheffield city council for the change of use of the former nightclub which has been empty and unused since 2003.
External alterations will be made including the replacement of the existing windows overlooking Leopold Street. The proposed gym is expected to primarily be used by staff of the Fountain Precinct, but could also be potentially open to the public.
A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The change of use of the former nightclub forms part of the wider investment in Fountain Precinct and demonstrates confidence in the city centre office market.
“The proposed development will help to assist with attracting new businesses into Sheffield city centre and to increase the availability of quality office space within it.”
Planning permission has also recently been granted for the creation of a bar and restaurant unit in the open space under the western wing of the office block, with construction work currently underway.
