Sheffield-based designer Lorelle Skelton has designed a unique pin badge for this year’s Sheffield Beer Week, featuring an important, inclusive message.

Hi Lorelle! Tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m a Sheffield-based graphic designer and I run Great Good Creative, which brings branding and other design services to organisations with charitable or social aims.

Could you tell us a bit about how you’re getting involved with Sheffield Beer Week this year?
Sure! I’ve designed a ‘beer for all’ pin badge that people will have the opportunity to get their hands on during the week. I wanted to create a design that focused on diversity (I used different skin tones to illustrate this) and had a strong, inclusive message ‘beer for all’. I like that it has a revolutionary feel, with the waving flag and raised hands but is still colourful and playful. I think it will translate really well to a pin.

I think it’s really important that ALL people working in the beer industry, and elsewhere, are represented and made to feel welcome.

One of the main talking points of this year’s event will be diversity and inclusion in the beer industry, how important is it to shine a light on this not just the beer industry, but perhaps with your own work and the creative industry in general?
I worked on a digital art project not so long ago which celebrated black women and highlighted the lack of representation that this group often experiences. I think it’s really important that ALL people working in the beer industry, and elsewhere, are represented and made to feel welcome.

You launched Get Good Creative in 2017, how’ve things been since?
It’s been a steep learning curve but I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great clients so far and I’m excited about what 2019 has in store!

You’ve worked for a range of clients, what’s been the most rewarding and enjoyable so far?
I worked on a branding project for a charity called the Emayani Foundation last year. That was probably when I first realised that I could do work that was both creatively fulfilling and making real change in the world!

Do you have much experience with the beer scene in Sheffield?
No, but I’m looking forward to starting!
