Popular Shoreham Street bar and brew house Sentinel Brewing Company has announced that it will enter liquidation with immediate effect, meaning the doors will be closed to the bar unless a buyer is found.

Owner Alex Barlow told Exposed: “Quite frankly, I’m gutted. It’s the last thing you want to do as a business owner. We’ve been very proud of what we’ve achieved in a short space of time.

“We discussed with the team and we’ve very proud of what we’ve done. Our reviews are great, feedback from consumers is great, but it doesn’t pay the bills. We simply do not have enough people coming in the door.

“It’s a stunning venue, a great range of beers and we do excellent food. We recently did a customer service survey to see what we could improve on and it came back with next to nothing. We just haven’t got the volume of trade to keep the place open and we’ve had to take the reluctant decision to close.”

The bar is closed immediately, but the brewery will still be trading and looking for investors. “I’m cautiously optimistic. I would love to think that we can get the investors we want but I don’t know any further at this time.”

What’s next for Alex? “I will talk to as many people as I can who have an interest in brewing and bars. It’s essentially an open call out. If anyone may be interested, come and talk to us.”

Alex took over the former warehouse on Shoreham Street in 2016 but has been plagued with financial difficulties over the last two years.
