Recognising the achievements, innovation and originality of the UK bar culture, the highly anticipated CLASS Bar Awards returned on 12th February at Lindley Hall in London.

Sheffield is a delight for the local bar-fanatic, with a whole host of options catering for different tastes. Last night, Sheffield bar Public took its legacy to another level at the prestigious CLASS Bar Awards.

Beating off competition from Scout and Satan’s Whisker’s in London, Public left London with an award for ‘Bar Food Menu of the Year’.

Hidden away beneath Sheffield Town Hall, Public is named after the public gent’s toilets that formerly occupied the subterranean space. It may not sound like the most appealing place to eat, but the Rockingham Group are masters at breathing new life into unexpected places. Their food menu is designed specifically to complement the cocktail menu, with small plates and sharing food cultivated from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

The awards are an off-shoot from the CLASS magazine; a veritable bible for bartenders, managers and owners alike. Entrants were judged by leading bar connoisseurs from across the country. Other categories included ‘Bar of the Year’, ‘Bartender of the Year’ and ‘New Bar of the Year’, among many, many others.
