Picture House Social to bring the late-night disco boogie
Crystal Maze for hipsters? Picture House Social is a lynchpin of the now-thriving independent street that is Abbeydale Road. Six years ago, the idea of turning a former snooker hall into whatever it is that PHS is now was seen by many as, well, let’s say ‘brave’.
There’s a bar in there with great cocktails and fine beers, so that’s a tick, and some of the best pizza in the city being knocked out of the Italian pizza parlour-come-diner in the back. Don’t forget about the games room with ping pong tables and vintage arcade games, and there’s even a 24-seat private cinema nestled in there somewhere!
Add in the big outdoor terrace and the rumoured arrival of ‘Shuffle Shack’ (deck shuffle board and disco, anyone?) and you have a veritable rabbit warren of distractions to go with your drinks.
We also hear they’ve just been granted a 3am license for their bouncing weekend nights to go with the new disco room, so you can expect to see PHS become THE final destination after that Abbeydale bar crawl.
Summat to look forward when we’re out of this mess, eh?
