The Alpine Bar returns to the top of Fargate next week, and will this year be joined by the double-decked Alpine Lodge bar, situated on the Peace Gardens and replacing Thor’s Tipi Bar.
Alpine Bar will be joining the Christmas Markets at the top of Fargate, offering hot chocolate, a glass of mulled wine or a wide selection of beers and other drinks from 10am -10pm daily from 15 November.
Completing this year’s festive bar line-up is the all-new, double-decked lodge-style bar, The Alpine Lodge, arriving in the city centre for another place to grab a refreshment when you need it. It will also be open from 10am-10pm daily.
Market organisers have confirmed that the bar openings have been delayed until 15 November, following the Remembrance Day service on Sunday, after originally being advertised as 12 November.
The markets will also return on 15 November, with around 50 traders selling a huge range of gifts, crafts and refreshments up and down Fargate and in front of the Peace Gardens from 10am to 6pm Sunday to Thursday and until 8pm Friday and Saturday.
The Christmas Lights Switch On event will then take place across the city centre on Sunday 21 November from 2 – 6.30pm, with the illuminations scheduled to be switched on at 5.30pm.
This year’s event is a little different from previous years with a dual switch on from the Town Hall Square and Barkers Pool.
There’s plenty of entertainment planned from children’s film and TV costume characters, stars from Sheffield Theatres panto, Inka the giant animated polar bear, and Father Christmas in his Grotto on Pinstone Street too. There’s also balloon modelling, storytelling and craft activities, fairground rides and some festive music.
They also plan to light up the sky with an exciting firework display after the Christmas lights go on, so come along and enjoy watching and wandering around the event soaking up the festive atmosphere!
