Popular city centre eatery Marmadukes is planning to expand with two new cafes in Sheffield, including a proposed Ecclesall Road site which would act as a supply hub for the three sites.
The Ecclesall Road site, inside the former sorting office and next door to the old Napoloeons casino, would be similar to the original Marmadukes cafe and deli on Norfolk Row in the city centre, but with coffee roasting and bread making facilities big enough to supply all three sites.
“Coffee roasting is likely to take place on two days per week, whilst bread making would be on a daily basis,” a planning statement said. “Cakes and pastries would also be prepared again for consumption at all three outlets. As the Ecclesall Road site is a relatively large building, they wish to be able to stage certain events such as coffee roasting/tasting; speciality food tastings; corporate functions and from time to time wedding functions.”
Marmadukes Cafe Deli was opened by the Nye family in 2013 in the Grade II-listed former Georgian gentleman’s residence on Norfolk Row, Sheffield. The Nye family refurbished the space and became an instant favourite in Sheffield. Marmadukes then opened up the top floor of the building, increasing turnover by 4x, according to documents included in the proposal.
Opening times for the Ecclesall Road cafe would be from 08.00 – 20.00, Monday – Sunday. Negotiations for the second city centre site (and third overall) are still on-going.
