Owners of the temporarily closed, Michelin-recommended Sheffield restaurant Juke & Loe look to be about to reopen in the former home of The Milestone on Ball Street, in Kelham Island.
The announcement was made via a cryptic Instagram post offering a free meal for two to anyone who can correctly guess the location of their new restaurant, accompanied by a picture of the Ball Street sign and a slightly less than cryptic image of The Milestone’s window.

The Milestone has stood empty since restrictions were lifted last year, while Juke & Loe have been searching for a new home for the restaurant since May, having been without a site since moving out of their Ecclesall Road venue, after five years.
Shortly after receiving a glowing review from Guardian food critic Jay Rayner, Juke & Loe came to the end of its 5-year lease and the team were unable to agree on new terms with the landlord.
In a statement posted to Facebook, the owners explained the situation:
“It is with a heavy heart that we make this announcement. Juke and Loe will close its doors on the 28th of May this year. Our 5-year lease is up and despite negotiations with our landlord we are unable to come to a new agreement that benefits and protects the business and staff, this leaves us with no choice but to walk away.
“We are on the lookout for other premises in and around Sheffield. So if you know of anything, please do drop us a message. Sharing this post would also be very appreciated, to spread the word.
“It’s been a tremendous 5 years with highs and lows, we have enjoyed great success with recognition from guides, the national press and food critics alike. Of course, none of this would be possible without the support we have received from you, the customer. It’s been a fantastic journey and we hope to welcome you all along to our next venture as soon as possible.
“Above all, our thanks and appreciation go out to the staff, past and present. We couldn’t have asked or wished for better people to share this journey with. Your hard work and dedication have reminded me why we fell in love with this industry in the first place.”
Not sure if this counts as our entry into the comp(!) but we definitely can’t wait to see what they do with the place. Head to their socials for more details and to enter the comp.
