Lovers of animals, both the hoofed and pawed variety, can unite in a new cafe coming to Abbeydale Road.
Herbipaws cafe is hoping to bring together the popular worlds of cat cafes and vegan eateries with their plans for a cat cafe serving vegan food in the former Pose beauty salon.
Owner Tom Greatorex, currently a dog care centre director, told The Star all the cats will come from rescue homes. They’ll also focus on kittys with less of a chance of finding a new family such as blind and disabled cats, who can get some much needed love and attention.
The cafe will be aimed at omnivores as well as as existing vegans as a way of getting people curious about the lifestyle, Greatorex says: “I’ve been vegan for two years and I want to show people how lovely it is. We want to spread the awareness of what the food industry is all about”. As for the cats, there’s no suggestion that the vegan menu will extend to the furry residents.
Set to open on April 1st (no connection to April fools), the cafe is set to join what some are calling Sheffield’s ‘vegan district’ alongside Make No Bones, Burger Lols and Just Falafs. With Tabby’s Teas not too far away on Cemetery Road, it could be renamed the ‘cats and vegans district’ were it just a bit more catchy.
