Ahead of opening, we got a sneak peek inside an all-new fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar in the heart of Kelham Island.

Syn, on the corner of Alma and Russel Street, just across from the Grind Cafe, is set to take its place in the area’s thriving bar and restaurant scene at the beginning of September.

The new independent restaurant has been a long time in the works, but, after successfully navigating a number of setbacks, they are now finally confident they will soon be able to showcase the venue’s high-end offering.

Operations Manager, John Gordon, told Exposed: “It’s been a labour of love getting here. We took the site over in January last year, and there’s been a few ups and downs, but I love the overall aesthetic and look of the place now.

“We’ve got striking elements within the restaurant that I think should attract customers – no expense has been spared in making sure that the delivery meets ours’ and the customers’ expectations. I’m feeling incredibly positive.”

John and the team plan to offer small plates through the day from 11am, before moving to a larger plate, seasonal a la carte menu in the evening, with the menu itself remaining a closely guarded secret for the time being.

They have also created an extensive cocktail list of over 30 drinks, including homemade infusions.

“We’re going to hold back on revealing the food menu for the time being,” says John, who has over 15-years hospitality experience, “but it’s going to be an exciting flavour sensation and something that the area is screaming out for. We’ve got good relationships with a lot of the businesses locally, and we’re not going to step on their toes with what we offer.

“As well as beers that marry to the food, we’ve also got an extensive cocktail menu, which Charlie, our bar manager, has created. He’s generated a list of over 30 different drinks and he’s doing his own infusions on site as well. He’s actually got some custard vodka on the go at the moment!”
