Veeno on Ecclesall Road has closed its doors with immediate effect, according to a musician who was booked to play at the venue this week.

The Italian wine cafe had only been open for five months, gaining favourable reviews both on Facebook and on TripAdvisor.

Paul Pashley, a musician booked to play at the venue on Thursday (26 July), took to his own Facebook page to announce the news: “Obviously out of our control, we’ve just been informed that Veeno ( Sheffield ) has closed its doors with immediate effect. Paul’s evening next Thursday from 8pm obviously will no longer take place at this venue.”

A spokesperson for Veeno told Exposed: “Unfortunately the Ecclesall road branch has closed down. The Sheffield site was franchised and operated by Vindemia Ltd, a sub-company of Racz Group. There was an internal dispute between shareholders and it was initially agreed that Veeno Sheffield would be signed back to Veeno Head Office but on Tuesday night Mike Racz of Racz Group reneged on the deal and decided to liquidate the site, leaving the staff redundant and customers disappointed. This came as a big surprise to myself and team as we turned up for work as normal.

“I just want to point on record that this was not the decision of Veeno Head Office and shouldn’t reflect on them as a company.”
