Plans have been submitted to convert the vacant public toilets in Commonside, Walkley into a restaurant or cafe.
The proposals, by Hemen Karim and Haywood Design, set out plans to transform the former loos into an A3 (restaurant) use property, whilst retaining the A1 (retail) and A2 (financial services) licence awarded to the building last year.
Property specialist Mark Jenkinson and Son sold the property earlier this year for a cool £60,000 at an auction – well above the £40,000 asking price. Speaking to the Sheffield Star at the time, the auctioneer Adrian Little said: “There was a lot of interest in the old toilets. These things always seem to capture people’s imaginations. There’s plenty of potential. It’s in quite a prominent location on a parade where there are already shops. We’ve seen old public toilets like these become little cafes, sweet ships or even small residential units.”
Sheffield city council will make a decision on the Walkley property soon.
