There’s a new disco night that’s been making a big old splash over in Manchester for over two years now, attracting some of the biggest DJs and Divas in the world to the Albert Hall. We thought we’d head over and check out what all the fuss was about.

We arrived at the venue with USA quartet Pillowtalk (Live) already in full swing, churning out deep funky chuggers to an already swelling crowd. Spectacular decor’ combined with an array of LED screens was somewhat overwhelming at first but soon we were lost in La Discotheque’s world. As Detroit Swindle took over and headed into house-ier territory the energy levels began to raise and the dutch duo did a good job of steering the party upwards – slowly but surely – before the master took to the stage. With an explosion of confetti Kenny Dope did what only Kenny Dope can do with his classic house bangers, with Harddrive’s “Deep Inside” and Mousse T’s “I’m Horny” amongst the highlights. With the on-stage dancers now out in full flow the night’s reputation for extravagance was being met, and then some. With La Discotheque expanding to Leeds and now London we can only hope that they’ll head to Sheffield soon!

La Discotheque hits Leeds’ Canal Mills this Saturday with Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip) doing an exclusively Prince set. Printworks in London with Derrick Carter on February 1st. Tickets are available from Skiddle for £17.85 here.
