Celebrating 10 whole years of learning disability-friendly clubbing, The Leadmill will be hosting a special evening of live music on Thursday 22nd June.

This event will feature two rooms of music and live performances from musicians who cultivated their talent from Under The Stars music workshops. The Under the Stars initiative was started by Ruth Parrott back in 2007. Seeing that there was no real nightlife that specialised in providing a safe and welcoming environment for individuals with learning disabilities, she set out to change that.

Strobe lights and pounding beats can be overwhelming, particularly for people with learning disabilities, and Ruth organised Under the Stars with this in mind. For the past 10 years, it’s been a place to make and meet up with friends, while enjoying a plethora of entertainment on offer. Ruth wanted her visitors to feel at home and comfortable, and most importantly of all, feel that they’re not being judged. Under the Stars allows them the chance to just go out and have a fun, carefree night on the town.

Originally, the very first event was intended to be just that – the first and last – but it was an instant hit. So much so that it moved from its previous home at Sheffield Hallam’s Students Union (AKA The Hubs), to The Leadmill in 2015, where’s it’s still going strong. And Sheffield wasn’t the limit – it’s also taken events to Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham, proving that there’s an appetite for Ruth’s ideas beyond Sheffield’s borders.

It’s £5 on the door and all are welcome. Check out their website for more info.
