Miles Kane oozes swagger as he prowls onto Nulty’s Main Stage wearing a pair of skin-tight jeans and a shirt that gives a nod to Miami Vice. His arrival is greeted by huge cheers from a crowd of all ages, eager and waiting.
Setting the scene with high-energy, intense performances of ‘Inhaler’ and ‘Taking Over’, the arena launches into a large scale mosh pit. The intensity carries Kane throughout the entirety of his set, diving into performances of back-catalogue classics such as ‘Telepathy and ‘Kingcrawler’.
There’s a slight change of pace when Kane offers up a cover of Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’, serving as a breather from the crashing guitars and rip-rollicking riffs which forces the crowd to switch out the pushing and shoving for a bit of moving and grooving.
In terms of performing as a solo artist, it did feel as though I was watching the same Miles Kane who supported the Arctic Monkeys at Don Valley Stadium back in 2011. It has to be said that the crowd lapped up every song which, it seems, have stood the test of time.
For me, there are two things to take away from his performance tonight; his guitar playing ability and his showmanship cannot be questioned.
