Blossoms are one of those acts that seem to double everything in scale each time they venture to our fair city.
It makes sense really. When they first graced the Tramlines stage four years back, there was no pair of top ten albums, no support slots for Stone Roses under their belt, and a noticeable absence of the hip-swinging, foot-stomping 80s synth-pop that is now very much their calling card.
One thing that has always remained a constant for these boys, though, is the level of confidence they exuberate.
And this assuredness that has always belied their years was on fine display this evening from the moment they kicked off with the insistent ‘At Most A Kiss’, with the band weaving together songs from their first and second albums in fairly equal measure, resembling something of an early greatest hits set.
Pulling out all the stops also were their ever reliable fans who greeted the opening bar of each track with an excitable roar, a circle pit and pyro.
With Noel Gallagher to follow straight after, it made pleasant viewing to see Greater Manchester’s takeover of Tramlines’ Saturday night greeted with a Yorkshire seal of approval.
