With the iconic Night Kitchen due to close it’s doors in the coming months, this was the last chance for the guys behind Roots to give it one last send off, and it’s fair to say, they did it with style!

The stack of speakers in the basement was a sight to behold and with the bass driving through the walls, you would be excused if you thought the building was due to be torn down that night.

It was a night for celebration as Roots have been providing quality Reggae and Jungle across Sheffield and beyond for 5 years and continue to grow from strength to strength. This is shown through the caliber of artists they always manage to bring to Sheffield. On show tonight was Junglist legend Krak In Dub, who duly displayed why he is one of the most revered names in the scene with an explosive set covering Dub, Reggae and Jungle. Not settling with one headliner, New Zealand duo TRUTH also took to the decks with a powerful bass driven set which ranged from deep melodic Dubstep to pure party bangers.

To ensure this was a birthday celebration to remember, Sheffield Drum n Bass pioneers Displace played host to their own little party in the downstairs Pipes Room. Headlining were Need for Mirrors, a legend in the game, who has released music under almost every major Drum n Bass label and it was clear to see why with this rumbustious set which had everybody raching for the ceiling throughout.

Aside from the headlining acts, there was plenty of Sheffield talent including Roots’ own A-Kid ft Mr Multiplex, Grimaz and the Displace Crew to cap off a sublime night of bass driven music.
