On Saturday 3 December at 1pm, Meze Publishing are teaming up with the Archer Project, a charity based in Sheffield that tackles homelessness in the city, to raise money for the cause through fantastic food demonstrations.
Luke French, a Sheffield chef who competed in the BBC series Great British Menu earlier this year, will be cooking one of his well-loved dishes at the ticketed event at the Sheffield Plate food hall , in Orchard Square .
Meze Publishing have also promised to donate 10% of all book sales through their website in the month of December.
Luke French opened Jöro, an award-winning restaurant in Kelham Island, in 2016 with his wife, Stacey Sherwood, and is known for his Nordic/Japanese dishes and clean flavours.
Event organiser, Lizzy Capps, of Meze Publishing, said: “After getting to know Luke through working with him on his new book, Behind The Pass, we knew he would be the perfect fit for this fundraiser.
“As a fellow Sheffield-based organisation, the Archer Project is very close to our hearts and with the colder months looming it’s so important to support this cause. We’re so excited for people to watch Luke at work whilst helping tackle homelessness in our city.”
Alongside Luke’s food demo, Sheffield Plate offers Sri Lankan, Peruvian, Thai, and Portuguese street food, and two bars’ downstairs.
Tickets are available to buy here priced at £13 plus Eventbrite fees (totalling £14.61) but are also available to purchase on the door. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Archer Project to help fund the amazing work they do in tackling homelessness in Sheffield.
Alongside this, with every ticket bought Sheffield Plate have offered a discounted drinks voucher to be spent in their Liquor Lab or Orchard Tap following the event.
Attendees will be able to purchase a range of Meze Publishing cookbooks, including Luke French’s new cookbook Behind the Pass, and merchandise by Printed By Us, a partnering brand of the Archer Project’s who employ those affected by homelessness in Sheffield.
The Archer Project aims to help homeless people in Sheffield achieve a better quality of life, initially helping homeless people into accommodation. They have branched out to help the homeless tackle setbacks, identify and change negative behaviour and overall improve their wellbeing. Also making accessible volunteering roles, and Health and Wellbeing services to raise awareness of what makes a healthy lifestyle and acknowledge any mental health concerns.
The Sheffield Plate has 6 international street food vendors including Sri Lankan, Peruvian, Thai and Portuguese as well as a cocktail bar and craft ale bar downstairs. They also hold events in the hall including music performances, speed dating, bring-your-dog events, weekly quizzes and plenty more. They were shortlisted in the 2022 Exposed Awards for the Best Food Hall.
