There is nothing better than festival time. The sun is shining, there is music everywhere and an abundance of random fancy dress. It is the quintessential British vibe. One the best festivals in the country is here in Sheffield. Many people will know about the Tramlines festival but could this be the best one yet?
Tramlines festival
The festival first started in 2009 and even in the first year 35,000 people attended it. The festival has grown and grown. Even the second year there were more venues added to the festival because it was such a success. During the 2010s the amount people attending the festival more than doubled as more and more acts were interested in playing.
Situated at Hillsborough Park, the three day festival is price accommodating and can rival other local festivals such as Leeds and Y Not. Although it is a non-camping event, there are plenty of city based accommodations and many campsites in the area.
Who has played previously?
It is fair to say Tramlines has had a mixed identity with bands coming from the indie genre and many pop acts also appearing on the bill. The most notable acts over the past 13 years include people like Ash, Olly Murs, Reverend & The Makers, The Cribs, Pixie Lott, Example, Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal, The Libertines, Stereophonics, Craig David, Two Door Cinema Club, The Streets and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
Tramlines is able to get big artists and that is showing no signs of stopping one bit especially this year.
What makes this year so special?
After the cancellation of the 2020 festival, festival goers have got a real bee in their bonnet about attending festivals as much as they can. In 2021 they descended in their droves to the festivals and Tramlines was no different. However, 2022 feels even bigger with restrictions easing even more.
Even in March, the Friday day has sold out completely and this can only be thanks to one man from the North East, the unbelievably talented Sam Fender. Sam Fender has taken the music industry by storm especially with his second album. He has bagged plenty of awards in the process; some fans even looked at new betting sites offers they were that confident he would pick up another Brit award.
With Fender headlining on the Friday night on the main stage, the crowd will already be pumped up from James who will be belting out all the Manchester classics.
The top two acts at the main stage follow a trend form the Friday with two amazing artists scheduled to play. On Saturday, Kasabian have made their return to the festival scene and will be supported by The Vaccines (no Coronavirus pun intended!). Whereas, the Sunday could cause an earthquake in Sheffield with Madness headlining and The Wombats playing just before them.
Other standout acts from the weekend include Bad Boy Chiller Crew (the music you love to hate), Jade Bird, Inhaler, Self-Esteem, Sports Team, The Coral and Becky Hill. It is jam packed!
Even if you are not entirely bothered by the bands that are playing you have so much alternative stuff at a festival with the T’Other Stage showcasing some top comedy acts like Russell Kane and Jason Manford.
If there are still tickets available then you need to get down to Tramlines this year. It will be a festival to remember!
