Sankeys – a clubbing institution, a unit where communities came together to celebrate music, life and love, a Northern clubbing landscape that blared out timeless dance tunes for over 20 years. From its raw industrial home in the heart of Ancoats, Manchester, the club continually stayed ahead of the curve with in the know bookings, an unrivalled atmosphere and countless legendary parties. But with news surfacing last month that the club was coming to an abrupt close, we ask ourselves, do we no longer want to dance?
The UK was once the world capital for the rave scene, but in recent years 50% of our clubs have been shut down. No longer willing to stand idly by and watch the country lose its beloved dance floors one by one; in association with Night Time Industries Association, Sankeys are launching a new initiative across the UK in an effort to bring quality, cutting-edge music, art and culture back into the places that need it.
Sankeys will lead the revolution in an outstanding attempt to keep the rave culture alive as they are opening the opportunity for people to vote for their own city to be the new home of Sankeys. Once there is enough interest in your city, the brand will go about looking for a premises and set up a new club or event series. It’s all about spreading the word to bring back a vital part of our heritage, youth culture and national identity.
