Sheffield’s nightlife scene is once again in the spotlight as the Best Bar None Awards returned to the City Hall after a four-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Home Office-backed scheme, aimed at promoting responsible licensing standards, celebrated establishments that prioritize public safety. This partnership initiative, led by Sheffield Business Improvement District (BID) in collaboration with Sheffield Council and South Yorkshire Police, aims to promote a safe and welcoming environment in the city’s entertainment destinations.

Among the winners at the glittering ceremony were The Frog & Parrot pub, Forum Kitchen and Bar, and Corporation nightclub. The event, attended by key figures from Sheffield’s night-time economy, highlighted the dedication of the city’s venues to maintaining high standards. Diane Jarvis, Head of Business Operations at Sheffield BID, said “I’d like to congratulate all our award winners but also all the businesses which took part in Best Bar None Sheffield this year!”

Nick Simmonite, manager of The Frog & Parrot and chairman of UNIGHT Sheffield, praised the collaborative effort involved in bringing back the awards, “By working together at both premises and city-wide level, we can improve both the safety of nightlife for customers and the night-time economy which is so vital to Sheffield’s prosperity”.

Sheffield’s night-time economy, boasting around 200 licensed venues, plays a significant role in employment and tourism. The Best Bar None scheme, coupled with Sheffield’s recent reaccreditation for a Purple Flag, reflects the city’s commitment to excellence in managing its evening and night-time economy.

Looking forward, organizers aim to expand the scheme to include more businesses such as hotels, theatres, and restaurants. The success of the 2023-2024 awards underscores Sheffield’s potential to become a national showcase for responsible nightlife management. The Best Bar None Sheffield awards not only recognize outstanding venues but also symbolize Sheffield’s dedication to creating a vibrant, safe, and inclusive night-time environment for residents and visitors alike.
