When the weather begins to get colder, you’ll need to change the clothes you wear accordingly. So far, so obvious. But what might not be obvious is that there are a range of different options available for keeping yourself snug while you’re active this winter (and even when you’re just lounging around the house). Let’s take a look at a few essential wardrobe staples.
Jeans
Now, we all know just how flexible and comfortable jeans are. Most of us wouldn’t be able to get through the year without them. In fact, you’re probably underestimating just how many pairs you need, and what style is most worthwhile. Skinny jeans can be more easily layered than baggy ones, making them a perfect fit for this time of year.
Sweater
Whether it’s cashmere or fisherman, a knitted sweater works with just about everything. Depending on the tightness of the weave, a sweater might not be as wind-resistant as you think, so layer it with something close-fitting underneath. If you want to keep your neck as warm as your torso, then go for a classic turtle-neck.
Thermals
You can never really have too many thermals. Just layer them underneath the rest of your ensemble, and you’ll never need to worry about how warm you’re going to be when you’re out of the house again. As a side-benefit, a pair of thermal bottoms makes for excellent loungewear when you’re curled up on the sofa.
Ankle Boots
A rugged set of boots is a must-have. You don’t, after all, want to be walking across ice-slick cobblestones if you aren’t wearing the appropriate footwear. A set of ankle-boots goes with just about everything; they’re versatile enough to match with skirts, jeans and tights, and they’re chunky enough to support your feet even if you’re on them all day long. If you’d like to go for something a little bolder, you can always invest in a set of over-the-knee boots, too; they match nicely with miniskirts.
Leather
Leather trousers (or, if you’d prefer, faux-leather trousers) will combine with just about any sweater. Opt for a black pair for maximum versatility, and look for something tailored.
Scarves
Go for a blanket scarf for the ultimate in foldable comfort. If you’ve elected to shun the turtleneck, you can keep this around and take it off when you’re in the comfort of the pub. Blanket scarves have the virtue of being incredibly flexible; you can wear them in dozens of ways, as evidenced here.
Coat
Finally, it’s impossible to get through winter with the right coat. Midi coats are ultra-chic, and help to bring together jeans and sweaters like nothing else. On top of all that, they’re incredibly cosy and practical, too.
