Exposed Magazine

Cord cutters made a life-changing decision that seems to only keep getting better with time. Streaming TV services are constantly upgrading their quality.

No matter where you choose to watch TV shows, chances are, you don’t have the vacation time to even watch a third of what’s online. Fear not.

Here’s a list of the top 7 popular streaming TV shows of 2020.

  1. The Good Place

No show on television takes you to so many different existential places as you’ll find on The Good Place. Kristen Bell doesn’t disappoint in a hilarious and compelling role as the star.

The storyline begins in the afterlife where we learn everyone there has made it to ‘the good place’ because of their good deeds on earth. But soon after they arrive, Kristen Bell reveals that her presence there is a mistake.

She was a terrible person on earth and doesn’t deserve to be there. She finds a tutor on becoming a good person and the story unfolds into an adventure of ethical chaos from there.

This year marked the series finale with a very strong final episode that didn’t likely leave a dry eye among viewers anywhere. Check out this binge-worthy series on Netflix while it lasts.

  1. Ratched

You don’t need to be a filmmaker to know that the new Netflix original, Ratched is a work of art. Some people will watch simply for the amazing production design and costumes.

The lead character Nurse Ratched sports designer outfits from the 1950s like it is her job. Though the cinematic elements are fun to watch, you’ll be drawn in by the performances immediately.

It’s not your typical suspense thriller or horror movie. You’ll find elements of crime drama and mystery all rolled up into one. Go on the wild ride that is Ratched to see one of the best horror TV shows with a female lead you’ve seen yet.

  1. Filthy Rich

Another drama on TV to check out is Filthy Rich. It’s one of the best shows on hulu.

The show follows Kim Cattrall, a filthy rich televangelist with a philandering husband. But that’s not the drama.

After her husband is accidentally killed in a plane crash with two hookers, she learns he left part of his company to children he made outside of wedlock.

These estranged children have the most outrageous backstories including one who is impersonating someone else in a coma. It’s a bizarre show that kicks a little bit at religious institutions in somewhat of a trite way, but it finds its balance in key moments.

Check out this show if you’re looking for the biblical version of Sexy and the City. By episode three, it’s clear this show is just a shallow diatribe about how religion wrongs feminists.

  1. Bob’s Burgers

You won’t be disappointed by the popular adult animation Bob’s Burgers this season. They’re back with just as many laughs, if not more.

Bob’s Burgers is a cartoon about the Belcher Family which includes Bob, his wife Tina, and their three children. The first thing you love about this underdog family is their loyalty to one another.

The Belcher family gives you 1980s sitcom vibes without all the pretense. This is a close-knit family in its truest form with a loyal husband and wife at the helm.

But, let’s be clear, everyone who watches this show is there for the one-liners not the wholesome feel of family. With hilarious antics constantly in play, the Belchers catch you off guard in creative scenarios that make this one of the best shows on TV.

  1. Woke

You know you’re woke when inanimate objects start talking to you about social justice. This is the premise of the story of Keef, a black cartoonist in Oakland who realizes he’s been living as the ‘good’ kind of black guy his whole life.

When he has an encounter with racial profiling, he is suddenly ‘woke.’ He realizes that every black person’s struggle is also his own.

He’s trying to reconcile feeling like a sell out with his ‘lighthearted’ cartoon strip and fighting against oppression. This is one of the best TV shows because of its timing.

It’s a great conversation starter for people of all races, but specifically, African Americans who don’t see themselves as a certain ‘kind of black.’ At what point and to what extent is it helpful to acknowledge racial injustice in America.

Keef explores what it means for his career. Should he become an activist or simply take the money and run?

  1. Succession

HBO can do very little wrong in its original programming. You’ve seen them master the art of sci-fi while keeping you on your toes with some of the best high concept dramas around.

Succession is no different. The tension between the family members makes you feel like you finally know what it feels like to be ultra-rich.

The awkwardness, backstabbing, subtle attitude adjustments, all depict the work of legendary actors. We don’t know whether or not we want Kendall or Logan to win.

The entire family keeps you on your feet with unpredictably entitled behavior.

  1. Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer brought in some great female genius vibes in the TV remake of the movie. Daveed Diggs is the winner here though with a strong performance as the revolutionary leader.

The choice of casting from there is odd though. Still, it doesn’t take away from the grit and horrifying circumstances of being stuck on a 1,000 long train with people who mostly hate each other.
