Exposed Magazine

Sicily is for the whole year. Archaeological zones, good gastronomy and truly spectacular natural attractions allow you to enjoy the outdoors with the Mediterranean at your feet. And if we talk about the sea, we can only recommend the best beaches in Sicily that you can find in any of its four cardinal points.

Thus, and along the coast of Sicily, we find all kinds of places where a good account of a bath. Beaches of fine, kilometer-long sand face small coves in the purest local style. There is room for all kinds of sun and sea lovers, which makes the island worthy of a visit at any time of the year.

5 recommended beaches in Sicily

1.Isola Bella (Taormina)

The excursion to Taormina is a must on any trip to Sicily. Its narrow streets mix perfectly with the Greek Theater (what a view!) or with a visit to the Duomo. Strolling down Corso Umberto I is just as mandatory as heading down the hill to Isola Bella. The area is a Nature Reserve and has a beach that, without being of fine sand, is one of the most beautiful on the island. The environment works in your favor. In Isola Bella there is a private area with sun loungers and umbrellas for rent but also a public space where you can spread out your towel without any problem. The water is crystal clear.

  1. Cefalu

To the north of Sicily we find the most visited town in that area of the island as it offers very interesting places to see. The Duomo of Cefalù or the climb to La Rocca are our recommendations without neglecting the walk through its semi-pedestrian streets. Obviously, the great coastline that we find there is obvious, since it forms a bay in which hotels and restaurants occupy the immediate vicinity. This beach is usually very frequented by tourists but do not stop enjoying it. It is the icing on the cake of a visit to Cefalù. The small cove of Porto Vecchio is also an option.

  1. Tonnara di Scopello

What used to be occupied by an old tuna boat is today one of the most exclusive, quiet and cinematographic coves in Sicily. After being used as part of the set for the movie Ocean’s Twelve, the place has become so famous that access has a cost as it crosses private property (you also pay to park). The small cove has a couple of watchtowers but what is really interesting is on the shore. The small stones are the prelude to an underwater museum in which Greek and Roman amphorae and some other surprises are kept. All this with information panels with which to orient yourself.

  1. Lido di Noto

If you venture beyond Syracuse to visit the city of Noto, you will find not only an area almost completely rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, but also an iconic and artistic place. Noto is one of the culminating works of the Baroque in Italy, a city where strolling through its cobbled streets is worth it, as much as its nearby beach. And it is less than 7 km. from the center we find the Lido di Noto, a kilometer-long beach of fine golden sand and crystal clear waters where we recommend stopping and unwinding. There are several areas, San Lorenzo being where most of the services are concentrated. If you want something more exotic, the Spiaggia Calamosche or the Reserva di Vendicari are your places.

5. Sampieri (near Ragusa)

To reach the beach you have to cross a pine forest. It is quite beautiful because some of the forest edges have been fenced off. Don’t imagine that you will cross the “regular pine forest” because you will find a free changing room. There is also a fountain but be careful! It emits water that has been contaminated with seawater. Of course salty! Want to swim in the sea? You have to walk quite a distance. But what you will pass is the beach sand which is quite clean and very smooth. We feel that the sand of Sampieri beach is one of the finest in the world!
