Before last year’s Championship playoff loss to Steve Cooper’s squad, Nottingham Forest made their “final offer” for defender Max Lowe. City Ground officials attempted to persuade Sheffield United to return to the negotiating table after the club’s refusal.
We believe the offer made during the January transfer window was worth approximately £1.5 million. This is significantly less than the $5 million they were told when they first expressed interest in signing Lowe permanently. The transfer hit the headlines simutansioly with NFL Week 1 odds.
According to sources close to United, the 25-year-old’s value has increased since he helped Forest qualify for the Premier League.
Lowe’s Impact
Lowe played for Derby County in the past. Starting last season on loan in the East Midlands, he played 23 times across all competitions.
After recovering from an injury, he came on as a substitute in the final few minutes of Forest’s victory over Huddersfield Town at Wembley, securing Forest’s long-awaited return to the Premier League.
Cooper may still care about Lowe as he prepares for his upcoming campaign. However, new information has emerged regarding what his boss did five months ago to convince United to sell.
After their first attempt to acquire the wing-back failed, and they informed the top officials in South Yorkshire that they would not pay more, a Forest representative immediately contacted United again and attempted to negotiate a price.
United stated that they had already taken this action, so they would not maintain the newly opened line of communication.
Lowe’s agents believe United should increase his contract to compensate for losing a Premier League salary if a transfer to Forest fails. Paul Heckingbottom is prepared to include him in the squad that travels to Portugal for warm-weather training and a friendly against Casa Pia.
Since Lowe’s contract does not expire until 2024, United could hold off until it is clear what his long-term intentions are.
Contract Extension
Max Lowe, a Sheffield United defender, is reportedly contemplating a permanent transfer to Nottingham Forest. However, he will likely request improved terms to remain at Bramall Lane.
Last season, Lowe played for Forest. He was instrumental in their rise up the table, which led to their promotion via the playoffs. The left-back missed a portion of the run-in but returned at Wembley to help Liverpool defeat Huddersfield.
Forest desires to sign Lowe to a permanent deal, as is known. But as of now, United is seeking approximately $5 million for the former Derby player. As things currently stand, it is a number that repels Forest.
The Sheffield Star reports that Lowe’s agents will negotiate a better contract with Bramall Lane officials if United does not reduce their asking price.
The Sheffield Star reports that now that the season has concluded, Sheffield United will attempt to extend Max Lowe’s contract, but Nottingham Forest wants to sign him permanently.
Lowe will sign with Sheffield United in September of 2020. Jayden Bogle also relocated to Bramall Lane due to the same transaction. Sky Sports said the Blades paid £15 million for the two transfers.
Bogle quickly demonstrated his quality for Sheffield United, whereas Lowe struggled to make the starting eleven.
In his first season with the club, the left-back appeared in only 11 games, including eight in the Premier League.
Blades officials loaned Lowe to United in the summer of 2021 because Enda Stevens and Rhys Norrington-Davies also played for the club.
The 25-year-old went on to sign with Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.
Lowe has had a fantastic season with the Reds despite having groin issues for several months. He scored one goal and assisted on four others in 23 games. This helped Cooper’s team advance through the postseason.
Forest won the semi-final penalty shootout against United, but Lowe could not play due to the terms of his loan agreement.
Cooper Eyeing Permanent Max Lowe Move
According to the Sheffield Star, Cooper wants Forest to hire Lowe permanently. The Englishman has made a significant impression on his interim boss.
However, according to sources, Lowe’s contract with United could be extended in South Yorkshire. And Forest chiefs are aware of the Blades’ intentions.
The new agreement would be in effect until June 2026 and could be used to prevent Forest from relocating. United’s current contract with Lowe expires in 2024, so they are not at risk of losing him for nothing.
Paul Heckingbottom employs an intriguing tactic. Lowe, Forest, or any other premier club would have to pay a substantial transfer fee if they re-signed.
United must first convince Lowe to sign a new contract. He has not been given many opportunities at Bramall Lane.
Since his time with Forest was fruitful, the fullback may attempt a permanent move to the East Midlands.
